Get playbakk

Start on your computer.

playbakk runs in a desktop browser alongside your call app. On a phone, import a call recording instead. Technical testers can also run the desktop companion from its source package.

Ways to get playbakk

01 / Browser

Open the web app.

Sign in, set up an authenticator and make the short check with your headphones on. Then start your call in any app and let playbakk record your side.

02 / Desktop developer package

Run the companion.

A single source ZIP for macOS or Windows technical testers. It requires Node.js 22.12 or newer and a terminal. This is not a signed installer.

Install the desktop preview.

Download and extract the ZIP. Open a terminal in the extracted folder, then run:

npm ci
npm start

Grant the camera and microphone permissions your operating system asks for. Make a short test with both people speaking, then check picture and sound before a real call.

Recordings and exports are saved on your computer.

On phones and tablets.

Phones allow only one app to use the camera during a native call, so playbakk cannot record alongside a WhatsApp, Telegram or FaceTime call on a phone. Instead, import a recording of the call, or an Apple Local Capture file where your device supports it, and playbakk finishes the clip.

You can also keep the call on your phone and run playbakk on a computer next to it, recording your own camera and microphone.
